Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Center Infrastructure is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems in our Ohio data center. You will lead maintenance, manage projects, coach technicians, and drive reliability while controlling costs.

Travel between sites is expected and you will report to the Data Center Facility Manager. As a key technical resource, you will implement best practices, mentor staff, and ensure safety and security standards are met.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of data center experience including industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
• Experience leading technical teams through daily operations, maintenance evolutions, and complex troubleshooting.
• Associates or higher in engineering or related trades and professional certifications are preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
• Operate independently with limited direct management and act as escalation point for facilities issues.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and drive corrective actions.
• Develop and deploy standard practices for engineers and vendor support teams.
• Provide training and guidance to engineering technicians and ensure safety and security procedures are followed.
• Manage projects from conception to completion, including quotes, cost tracking, and documentation.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
