Job summary

JLL is hiring an on-site Critical Environment Operating Engineer in Austin, TX. You will perform maintenance and repairs in a data center, responding to BMS alarms and coordinating with vendors to ensure reliable operations.

The role requires HVAC or electrical experience, a technical apprenticeship, and the ability to work shifts including weekends. Proficiency with CMMS and MS Office is expected to support safe, compliant facility management.

Qualifications

• HVAC or Electrical experience; trade license preferred but not required.
• Technical discipline training with apprenticeship or equivalent; 1–2 years of related experience.
• Must be able to complete work orders through CMMS.
• Ability to work shifts that may include weekends and holidays.
• Must meet the physical requirements of the role.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Perform daily site inspections of Mechanical & Engineering systems and equipment.
• Ensure environmental conditions provide a safe work environment.
• React to BMS alarms and complete emergency repairs as needed.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors and ensure compliance with procedures and laws.
• Alert management if subcontractor performance doesn’t meet requirements.
• Complete planned preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance on all equipment.
• Check BMS for running and alarm conditions and address HVAC-related issues.
• Conduct building walkthroughs and read meters (UPS, PDUs, utilities).
• Provide fixes to facility and plant faults and document defects.
• Follow established processes; maintain safety and quality records.
• Complete required training and deliver outputs under guidance.
