Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a Data Center Controls Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automation across electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including the DCIS platform built on MQTT and Ignition.

You will lead cross-domain projects from design through commissioning and ongoing improvement. The role requires 5+ years in data centers or mission-critical environments, PLC/DDC programming experience, and proficiency with IEC 61131-3 languages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems/Controls Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years engineering experience with control systems in data centers or mission-critical environments for electrical power and mechanical/HVAC systems
• Understanding of controls for high-availability electrical and mechanical systems (EPMS, MV PDCS, chilled water plants, BAS)
• Experience programming DDC/PLC controllers and redlining controls drawings
• Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 languages (ST, LD, FBD, IL)

Responsibilities

• Design data center automation and control systems for electrical infrastructure (EPMS, MV PDCS) and mechanical infrastructure (BAS, chilled water, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH, AHU, pumps).
• Author and maintain control system specifications and sequences of operations; review drawings.
• Configure and program PLCs, PACs, and DDC controllers or oversee third-party systems.
• Support DCIS by integrating electrical and mechanical data into Ignition over MQTT for a unified operator experience.
• Oversee commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems; validate performance before handoff to operations.
• Troubleshoot controls and monitoring issues using data analysis, FDD, and corrective actions.
• Serve as liaison between design teams, vendors, contractors, and operations; support training and emergency response.
