Job summary

Edison Smart® is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead development, programming, and support of control systems across products and projects. This hands-on role focuses on safe, reliable automation solutions within a fast-paced environment for complex critical infrastructure.

You will collaborate with engineering, design, manufacturing, customers, suppliers, and partners to develop and troubleshoot control solutions from design through delivery, including field support and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Controls Engineering, Automation, or related experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming.
• Working knowledge of SCADA and industrial communication protocols, including Modbus and Ethernet-based protocols.
• Experience coordinating technical aspects of customer projects.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and develop practical control solutions.
• Experience with technical proposals, estimates, or project costing.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support PLC and HMI programming for complex control systems
• Review customer requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
• Support the development and integration of control systems across electrical and critical power equipment
• Troubleshoot and resolve design, manufacturing, quality, and field issues
• Work closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to keep projects on schedule and within budget
• Develop technical documentation, procedures, work instructions, and training materials
• Support customer projects from an engineering and technical perspective
• Provide field support and occasional domestic travel when required
• Stay up to date with emerging automation, controls, and industrial technologies
• Contribute to continuous improvement and new product development initiatives
