Job summary

Black Box Network Services is seeking a Network Infrastructure Technician to install, test, and certify structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment. The role covers optical and copper cabling, troubleshooting and decommissioning obsolete infrastructure, and supporting facilities and MAC activities at a Chicago client site.

2–5 years of relevant experience in data center cabling and infrastructure.
Experience with IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in a data center environment.

Responsibilities

Patch cabling between network equipment and customer’s network.
Install power cables from equipment to power supplies in rack/cabinet.
Install, troubleshoot and de-install network equipment.
Install/swap out cables, switches, routers and etc.
Complete Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within service levels.
Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure.
Perform layer 1 troubleshooting.
Support carrier testing of circuits.
Assist with facilities efforts.
Power and UPS restoral.
Emergency cooling restoration.
Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.
Act as an interface between location associates and centralized project / operations / MAC management.
