Understood.org in New York City seeks a hands-on data leader to drive efficiency, data quality, and trusted analytics. You will lead production data pipelines, coach engineers, and set direction for multiple teams while maintaining focus on delivery speed and business impact.

This hybrid role requires three days in the NYC office weekly, with a Mac environment and a strong emphasis on collaboration with product and engineering to turn business needs into actionable data roadmaps.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience operating on a data team and leading projects end-to-end.
• 2+ years in people leadership coaching data engineers.
• Experience partnering with senior executives and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the data and analytics engineering team, coaching from junior to senior levels.
• Oversee domain pipelines, models, data contracts, and maintain data quality and SLAs.
• Turn business needs into roadmaps, partner with stakeholders, set milestones in Jira.
• Put AI to work in our workflows and shape event tracking and A/B testing strategies.
