Job summary

The New York Times is seeking analytical talent to turn experience with data and support of world-class journalism into decision-making insights. You will join the Data and Insights Group (DIG) and Data Platforms to support enterprise partners and report to the Executive Director, Analytics Engineering.

You will independently lead high-visibility data foundation work, become SME on our subscription data, and design reusable data pipelines and models to empower analysts and partners across the

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, product analytics or similar data-intensive roles.
  • Proficiency in SQL, DBT, and data transformation workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python for ETL and analytics use cases.
  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners; you will work with both business-focused partners and platform-focused engineers.
  • Hands-on familiarity with cloud data environments (GCP/BigQuery, Databricks/Spark, AWS, Snowflake).

Responsibilities

  • Lead work streams in a high visibility role building data foundations for enterprise reporting datasets used by executives.
  • Be subject matter expert on subscription data and mentor teammates.
  • Design reusable business logic and data pipelines for rapid analytics.
  • Develop data models, data contracts, alerting, context, and metrics/semantic layers for traditional and AI-assisted analytics.
  • Support journalistic independence and uphold the mission to seek the truth.
