Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. seeks an experienced structural engineer to join our dams and water resources practice. The role involves leading structural design and reviewing work, mentoring staff, and delivering safe, reliable dam and water infrastructure projects.

The position can be filled in our offices in Woburn, MA; Franklin, MA; Bedford, NH; Portland, ME; or Ithaca, NY, with about three days in-office and two remote. Travel to field sites is required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• 7 to 15+ years’ experience in structural engineering related to dams and water resources structures.
• PE licensure or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Experience with structural analysis software (SAP2000/STAAD/RISA/ANSYS, etc.) and AutoCAD.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to travel on temporary assignments and work in the field in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Serve as structural lead, and/or project/task manager.
• Oversee and review designs developed by staff engineers; mentor and promote technical development.
• Analyze various dam types and structures for stresses, stability, and performance under extreme loads.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and temporary works as needed.
• Develop and evaluate alternatives for new facilities and upgrades.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, contract documents, and technical specs.
• Inspect ongoing dam and water resources construction projects for conformance with design requirements.
• Participate in semi-quantitative risk analysis workshops.
• Prepare reports, give presentations, and participate in client meetings.
• Prepare scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
