Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. seeks an experienced structural engineer to join our dams and water resources practice, with assignments across the U.S. offices including Ithaca, NY. The role involves leading structural design, review work, and mentoring staff engineers on dam safety and performance challenges.

You will analyze diverse dam types and related facilities, develop design solutions, and prepare contract documents. Occasional field work and travel are expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• 7 to 15+ years’ experience in structural engineering related to dams and water resources.
• Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain licensure within one year.
• Experience with structural analysis software (SAP2000/STAAD/RISA/ANSYS, etc.) and AutoCAD.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for temporary assignments.
• Willingness to work in the field and in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Serve as structural lead, and/or project/task manager.
• Oversee and review designs developed by staff engineers; mentor and promote technical development.
• Analyze concrete gravity dams, arch dams, buttress dams, spillways, powerhouses and related structures for stresses, stability, and performance.
• Analyze and design foundations, retaining walls, temporary works and other structures as needed.
• Develop and evaluate alternatives for new facilities and upgrades to existing projects.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, contract documents and technical specifications.
• Inspect ongoing dam projects for conformance with design requirements and regulatory programs.
