Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine’s Cytogenetics Laboratory seeks a Cytogenetics & Laboratory Quality Systems Support Assistant to manage QA/QC processes, data reporting, and regulatory compliance. The role collaborates with the Quality Systems Manager and laboratory staff to uphold patient care standards.

Responsibilities include data management, audits, specimen accessioning, and administrative support, while ensuring regulatory guidelines (JCAHO, CAP, NYS DOH) are followed.

Qualifications

• An associate degree with at least two years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, laboratory and/or hospital based information systems.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Clerical and Basic Computer skills (MC Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Responsibilities

• Proficient with electronic data processing systems (Cerner Powerchart, CoPath, Sunquest, Policy Manager, Lawson).
• Accurate transcription and reporting of test results in CoPath and manual log.
• Familiar with QA/QC functions and audits and related documentation.
• Compile data and statistical reports for regulatory reporting or continuous quality monitoring.
• Create and implement quarterly audits under the direction of the Quality Systems Manager.
• Accession specimens using electronic and manual systems.
• Provide administrative support to Cytogenetics staff, Associate Technical Director and Quality Systems Manager.
• Serve as a professional role model for the Department of Laboratories.
• Perform monthly inventory and maintain supplies.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and safety practices.
• Develop standardized forms for lab use and reference cards for tests and processes.
• Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and semi-annual audits; perform additional ad-hoc QA projects.
