Job summary

MISO is offering a 2027 Summer Internship in Cybersecurity for undergraduate students in Carmel, Indiana. The program focuses on real cybersecurity operations, threat hunting, log analysis, and improving detections while contributing to grid reliability and resilience.

You will learn how cybersecurity teams identify incidents, strengthen defenses, and support CTAC and Security processes. The internship includes community events, networking, and a final project presentation showcasing your work

Qualifications

• Pursuing Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security, Network Security, or related fields (undergraduate or graduate).
• Have taken classes or done projects involving networking, operating systems, cybersecurity fundamentals, incident response, scripting, or log analysis.
• Are curious, collaborative, accountable, and comfortable diagnosing problems, asking questions, and improving workflows.
• Show strong analytical skills and can explain technical problems in clear, simple language.

Responsibilities

• Help protect the electric grid by supporting real cybersecurity operations—building simple automations, improving detections, analyzing logs, or assisting with threat hunts.
• Learn how cybersecurity teams identify suspicious activity, investigate incidents, and strengthen defenses using industry tools and hands-on workflows.
• Improve CTAC and Security team processes by identifying recurring issues and proposing practical solutions that make daily operations easier and more effective.
• Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
• Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.
