Job summary

NYSTRS is offering an IT Infrastructure & Operations internship in Albany, NY. You will gain hands-on experience across basic IT services, server provisioning, network storage, backups, and security administration while supporting end users.

The role emphasizes learning through varied projects within the I&O department, including IT service management, asset management, desktop support, and security tooling. Hybrid work is currently in place.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s or master’s degree program with at least one semester remaining.
• Rising junior, rising senior, or graduate student by Summer 2027.
• Interest in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and end-user support.

Responsibilities

• Assist users with basic hardware, software, and account-access issues.
• Set up and configure workstations, peripherals, and standard applications.
• Document troubleshooting steps and update internal knowledge articles.
• Monitor security alerts dashboards and identify basic suspicious activity.
• Assist with vulnerability scans, log reviews, and security tool updates.
• Prepare simple security awareness materials or assist in incident documentation.
• Contribute to other IT projects as relevant.
