Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is hiring a Cybersecurity Engineer to securely prototype and implement complex systems in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You will join a multi-disciplinary Human‑Machine Engineering team focused on securing warfighter-oriented software and hardware, both in unclassified and classified settings.

The role requires collaboration across engineering, research, and operations, with hands-on work in DevSecOps practices, cloud

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Science, or similar
  • 3+ years of experience supporting cybersecurity for DoD or IC systems, applications, or platforms
  • Experience with RMF and authorization tools (eMASS or Xacta)
  • Experience with scripting, programming, and software development (Python, C++, JavaScript, React)
  • Experience with DevSecOps tools (GitLab, Jira, Confluence)
  • Strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiar with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud environments (AWS)
  • Top Secret clearance and eligibility for TS/SCI clearance

Responsibilities

  • Support identification of technical challenges and contribute to cybersecurity solutions for prototypes
  • Collaborate with software, security, and IT teams on cybersecurity initiatives
  • Provide cybersecurity guidance to software development to balance speed and security
  • Help build infrastructure for DevSecOps in unclassified and classified environments
  • Contribute to research supporting secure prototyping and warfighter engagement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve cybersecurity practices and workflows
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into cybersecurity-constrained environments
