Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks engineers to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain advanced mission planning software. You will apply modeling, simulation, and AI to real defense challenges while building secure, containerized systems and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

You will learn from senior engineers, translate user needs from military operators, and work toward obtaining a Secret security clearance as part of national-defense initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience with software development and/or research in C++, Python, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, optimization, or systems analysis.
  • Interest in learning from military operators and applying engineering solutions.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and Secret clearance eventually.
  • Citizenship and government security investigation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software for mission planning and decision-support.
  • Apply software engineering, modeling and simulation, data analysis, or AI techniques to challenges.
  • Develop and evaluate algorithms to improve planning, resources, and effectiveness.
  • Build secure software with DevSecOps practices and containerized environments.
  • Conduct studies of current and future defense systems and their capabilities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transition research into capabilities.
  • Learn from mentors and participate in meaningful projects from day one.
  • Engage with military operators to translate user needs into solutions.
