Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a cybersecurity engineer to securely prototype and implement complex systems in a fast-paced, mission-driven setting. You will join a multi-disciplinary team to advance human-machine engineering and security across unclassified and classified environments.

The role emphasizes RMF governance, cloud design for government workloads, DevSecOps, and clear communication. A TS/SCI eligibility and U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Cybersecurity, CEngineering, SE or Info Science.
• 3+ years of DoD/IC cybersecurity experience.
• Experience with RMF and authorization tools such as eMASS or Xacta.
• Experience with scripting and software development (Python, C++, JavaScript, React).
• Experience with DevSecOps tools (GitLab, Jira, Confluence).
• Strong collaborative problem solving and mission-driven tech development.
• Experience collaborating across engineering, research, and operations.
• Familiar with Docker/Kubernetes security considerations.
• Experience designing, deploying, and securing AWS or similar government cloud environments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• TS/SCI eligibility or ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

• Identify technical challenges and contribute to Secure Prototyping.
• Collaborate with software, security, and IT teams on cybersecurity initiatives.
• Provide cybersecurity guidance to balance rapid delivery and security.
• Help build infrastructure for DevSecOps in unclassified and classified environments.
• Support research and experimentation for secure prototyping and warfighter engagement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve cybersecurity practices.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into secure environments.
