Job summary

Ultipro in Granite City, IL is seeking a certified welding inspector (AWS CWI) to join our on-site quality team. You will develop welding procedures and pertinent reports, inspect joints for defects, and ensure compliance with AWS and customer specifications.

Requirements include AWS CWI, 5 years in welding-reading interpretation, blueprint reading, and the ability to lead audits and cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI Certification is required.
• 5 years of writing and interpreting welding readings.
• Blueprint and layout reading is required.
• Ability to work independently and self-directed.
• Excellent communication and people skills; able to lead meetings and cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with MS Office, especially data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Reports (PQR) per AWS requirements.
• Inspects and tests welded joints for defects, dimensions, strength, bead formation, weld penetration, and conformance with specifications.
• Observes techniques and evaluates welders' performance.
• Reviews plans, contract documents, and specifications for fabrication and repair.
• Marks defective pieces and recommends rework or scrapping.
• Train and certify welders to internal standards.
• Schedule and conduct welding audits and determine corrective/preventive actions.
• Conduct process and product audits and determine corrective/preventive actions.
