Job summary

Sanford Health in Marshfield, WI seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery team. You will provide advanced perioperative care for adults, collaborate with surgeons and anesthesiologists, and participate in pre/intra/postoperative management across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will perform credentialed procedures, lead rounds, assist in the OR when credentialed, and educate patients and families about recovery and cardiac health

Qualifications

• Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in applicable states.
• DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances; state-specific licenses as required.
• Board certification in AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNP-BC, or related specialties.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care for adults undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Conduct preoperative assessments and risk stratification; educate patients.
• Participate in daily rounds, monitor progress, and adjust care plans.
• Perform credentialed procedures (e.g., chest tube removal, wound care).
• Manage postoperative complications with the surgical team.
• Order/interpret labs, imaging, EKGs; initiate interventions as needed.
• Facilitate discharge planning and patient teaching.
• Assist in the operating room when credentialed.
• Coordinate care transitions between units.
• Provide handoffs and follow-up visits; ensure continuity of care.
• Educate patients/families on recovery and cardiac health.
• Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety efforts.
• Maintain thorough EMR documentation; stay current with CVTS guidelines.
• Provide on-call coverage outside regular hours.
