Job summary

Sanford Health in Marshfield, WI is seeking a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced nursing care for adults undergoing CVTS procedures. You’ll work with surgeons and the care team across preop, intraop, and postop settings, performing assessments, risk stratification, and patient education.

Responsibilities include daily rounds, orders and interpretation of studies, discharge planning, and potential operating room assistance if credentialed.

Qualifications

• Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited NP program.
• 1–3 years of CVTS, critical care, or surgical experience preferred.
• Active RN and NP licensure in relevant states; DEA permit to prescribe.
• Board certification in AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG; other certs may be required.
• Privileges and credentialing determined by hospital policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide preoperative assessments and risk stratification.
• Participate in daily rounds and adjust care plans as needed.
• Assist in intraoperative and postoperative management as credentialed.
• Order/interpret labs, imaging, and EKGs; initiate interventions.
• Coordinate discharge planning and patient education.
• Support handoffs and continuity of care across units.
• Conduct post-op follow-up and wound management.
• Educate patients/families on recovery and cardiac health.
• Participate in quality improvement and guideline updates.
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation and on-call coverage.
