Job summary

Tulsa City-County Library is seeking a part-time team member who greets customers, assists them with library services, and helps maintain a neat, accessible space at Martin Regional Library.

You will guide patrons through checkouts, assist with basic technology, support programming, and ensure a welcoming environment for diverse community members. The role may require evening, weekend, and occasional Sunday hours.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and perform alphabetic and numeric sorting and filing.
  • Knowledge of general library procedures, policies, and operations.
  • Knowledge of circulation policies, processes and procedures.
  • Ability to provide directions.
  • Ability to help customers with their basic computer needs, including e-mail, answering Microsoft product questions, and navigating the Internet;
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate library’s automated systems and self-service tools.
  • Ability to operate audio-visual equipment, smart phones, mobile devices, computer hardware and software, and quickly learn new databases and consumer devices including (and not limited to) e-readers, tablets and personal computers;
  • May work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and occasional Sundays

Responsibilities

  • Provide general information in person and by phone to assist customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library.
  • Instruct customers on self-checkout machines to charge, renew, and discharge library materials.
  • Register customers by issuing and updating library cards.
  • Sort and route returned materials to proper location and keep the library neat and organized for easy access.
  • Receive and record fines and lost materials information.
  • Check library materials for damage and perform minor repairs.
  • Maintain orderly service areas.
  • Maintain periodical collections and prepare new books for circulation.
  • Help customers with basic technology and Internet problems.
  • Assist librarians with programming as assigned.
  • Support Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts and the Be All In culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Martin Regional Library is known for its Storytime Castle, the Hispanic Resource Center, and engaging programs for all age groups throughout the year.

Location: 2601 S. Garnett Rd, Tulsa

Salary: $14.42 / hour

Status: Part-Time, 20 hours / week

Schedule
  • Monday 5-9pm
  • Wednesday 5-9pm
  • Thursdays5-9pm
  • Saturday 8am-5pm
  • Occasional Sundays 1-5pm
Essential Functions and Qualifications Include:
  • Provides general information in person and by phone assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring reference questions to the appropriate resource;
  • Assists customers with self check-out machines by instructing how to charge, renew, and discharge library materials to/from customers;
  • Registers customers by issuing and updating library cards;
  • Sorts and routes returned materials to proper location and ensures that the library is neat and organized so customers can easily find what they need;
  • Receives and records fines and lost materials information;
  • Checks library materials for damage and performs minor repairs;
  • Maintains orderly service areas;.
  • Maintains periodical collections, sorts gift items, and prepares new books for circulation as directed;
  • May help customers with basic technology and Internet problems;
  • May assist Librarians with programming, as assigned;
  • Actively supports TCCL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library’s Be All In culture;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions

For most positions work regularly requires stooping, bending and light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds). Some positions require moderate physical exertion, such as regularly lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) such as crates full of books or pushing heavy (up to 100 pounds) wheeled carts full of books, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.
