Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a Driver & Identification Service Center Specialist who delivers exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. You will handle licensing/ID issuance, explain REAL ID requirements, and administer driving and skills tests across multiple vehicle categories.

Responsibilities include reviewing records, determining eligibility, and mentoring teammates. Expect daytime hours with occasional travel within the state, under a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or GED) and experience requirements.
• Three years of education plus/ or full-time work experience may substitute.
• Past state executive-branch experience as a Driver & Identification Service Center Associate is considered.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a point of contact for customer questions by phone, tests, and issuing licenses and IDs.
• Provide expert knowledge on license eligibility, licensing requirements, and identification documents under REAL ID standards.
• Administer and score motorcycle, car, truck, passenger, and CDL pre-trip, skills, and road tests.
• Review state and federal records to determine issuance eligibility.
• Support teammates through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Three years of education and/or full-time experience (30 semester hours = 1 year)

Six months of Driver & Identification Service Center experience (state executive branch)
