Job summary

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is hiring a custodian/maintenance worker in Elgin, Illinois. The role includes custodial cleaning of offices and Chapel, setup of rooms for activities, and basic vehicle driving duties.

You will assist with pantry operations and light grounds work while supporting the mission of The Salvation Army. Requires a high school education or equivalent, valid IL driver’s license, and a good driving record.

Qualifications

• High School education or its equivalent preferred.
• Basic experience in maintenance and knowledge of related tools and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• TSA MVR background clearance.
• Commitment to Army resources and policies.

Responsibilities

• Custodial duties: keep entire building clean including offices and Chapel; vacuum carpets and mop floors.
• Attend bathrooms: replace towels and toilet paper; ensure soap dispensers are filled.
• Prepare classrooms and rooms for corps activities and weekly events.
• Inspect building periodically; replace light bulbs and clear cobwebs as needed.
• Empty all garbage; dispose at the bin on the parking lot.
• Supervise Community Service workers fulfilling court-mandated duties.
• Outdoor grounds keeping, parking lot, park, and yard work.
• Unload food deliveries for pantry and load home goods orders for pantry.
• Maintain orderly storage areas for the building.
• Drive Corps vans for pickups, refuel, and drop-offs; arrange for maintenance.
• Report van issues to Corps Officers; take vans for maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
