Job Summary

Clean and maintain University assets as per the standards set by the Manager of Custodial Services. The Custodian may also be responsible for driving the trash truck or department van. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Manager of Custodial Operations.

This position requires overtime on weekends during sporting events or other campus activities. The employee may need to work multiple weekends consecutively depending on the situation.

Hours: Third shift, 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Pay Rate: $18.00/hour plus a $1.00 shift differential for third shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Disposal of trash
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas
• Sweep, mop, and buff floors
• Maintain aesthetic appearance of building entrances
• Ensure custodial closet is stocked and organized
• Strip and wax floors as needed
• Report facility issues to Maintenance
• Prepare resident halls for each semester
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Positive interaction with students, faculty, administration, co-workers, and supervisors
• Successful completion of assigned tasks
• English proficiency

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma with 1 year of direct and 2 years of indirect experience
• Prior floor care experience

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Valid driver’s license
• Sound physical condition
• Work in stockroom or warehouse environments
• High noise, dust, dirt, and grease environments
• Extensive safety training required
• Exposure to moving machinery and chemicals
• Use of protective devices
• Occasional lifting of 25-50 lbs.
• Standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping

Additional Information:

• Applicants must provide clearances including Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, Motor Vehicle Report, and Physical Lift Examination upon employment acceptance.
• Employment is provisional for 90 days, during which benefits are not available, and union eligibility is restricted.
