Tides Family Services Inc in Rhode Island seeks a Culinary Arts Instructor to teach middle and high school students culinary techniques, food safety, sanitation, and nutrition, while integrating reading, writing and math into kitchen activities.

The role maintains an engaging kitchen, collaborates with school staff, guides students to ServSafe certification, manages budgets and supply orders, and ensures health inspections are passed.

Qualifications

• Culinary school graduate or 3 years working in the food-service industry or similar experience.
• Experience with child welfare, behavioral health and juvenile justice populations and systems.
• Ability to work well within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a student/staff run commercial kitchen.
• Guide students to earning a ServSafe certificate.
• Teach students to maintain a weekly food budget.
• Show students how to order/shop for supplies while staying within a budget.
• Ensure the kitchen meets Rhode Island Department of Health requirements.
• Pass annual kitchen inspections from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
• Differentiate teaching strategies based on student need/ability.
• Position supports obtaining Food Safety Manager certification through the Rhode Island Department of Health.
• Collaborate with administration and teachers to support curriculum.
