Tides Family Services seeks a Culinary Arts Instructor to teach middle and high school students foundational culinary skills with focus on safety, sanitation, menu development, and nutrition. The role integrates reading, writing, math, and critical thinking in a kitchen setting.

The instructor will collaborate with school staff to align curriculum, guide students toward ServSafe certification, manage a budget, and ensure compliance with health regulations.

Qualifications

• Background checks required.
• Valid driver's license and vehicle registration and inspection required.
• Culinary school graduate or 3 years in food-service or equivalent experience.
• Experience with child welfare, behavioral health and juvenile justice populations is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Manage a student/staff run commercial kitchen.
• Guide students to earning a ServSafe certificate.
• Teach students to maintain a weekly food budget.
• Instruct students on ordering and shopping within budget.
• Ensure the kitchen meets Rhode Island Department of Health requirements.
• Pass annual kitchen inspections by RI Department of Health.
• Collaborate with diverse student backgrounds and abilities.
• Differentiate teaching strategies based on student needs.
• Pursue Food Safety Manager certification with RI Department of Health if needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
