Job summary

Hillmann Consulting, LLC is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our Construction Risk Management group in Springfield, VA. You will support risk assessment, review designs, and monitor construction progress for clients nationwide. This role offers hybrid work and opportunities for career advancement.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture and 2–5 years of construction/design experience, with strong communication and reporting skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering / Construction Management / Architecture or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of construction/design experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong client relationship and professional communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and regional travel.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Review pre-construction due diligence documentation and prepare risk reports.
  • Evaluate contracts, plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Conduct periodic site visits and provide project updates on risks.
  • Perform walkthrough surveys to evaluate building systems and estimate repair costs.
  • Support management with special projects.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Maintain proactive client communication.
  • Promote a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Develop strengths and industry knowledge for career growth.
  • Assist in expanding business by identifying opportunities.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Degree in Engineering / Construction Management / Architecture; or equivalent degree.
  • Experience: 2 – 5 years of construction / design related experience.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong client relationship and communication skills, with the ability to manage expectations effectively and professionally.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects and/or tasks simultaneously
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
    • Ability to prepare detailed reports and present findings clearly and professionally.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Mastery of the English language – written and spoken
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Reliable transportation + willingness/ability to travel overnight by car as well as occasional regional air travel
    • Ability to work from ladders
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities:
  • Complete detailed reviews of pre-construction due diligence documentation and prepare comprehensive reports that accurately identify and assess construction-related risks for clients.
  • Review and evaluate construction and architectural contracts, plans, specifications, hard-cost budgets, and project schedules.
  • Conduct periodic construction progress site visits and prepare detailed reports providing accurate project updates and professional assessments of construction risks.
  • Perform walkthrough surveys of existing buildings to evaluate the condition of major building systems and develop estimated costs for recommended repairs and improvements.
  • Complete special projects and assignments as directed by the management team.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and industry partners.
  • Maintain excellent client communication and provide responsive, professional service.
  • Promote a positive attitude and demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt, and overcome challenges.
  • Continuously develop individual strengths, skills, and industry knowledge to support professional growth and career advancement.
  • Assist in expanding the business by engaging with clients, identifying opportunities, and fostering long-term partnerships.
