Job summary

City of Houston is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to oversee rehabilitation projects in Transportation & Drainage Operations. This role involves coordinating engineering activities, reviewing plans and cost estimates, and guiding technical staff.

A PE in Texas is required, with four years of post‑degree practice and a Texas driver’s license. Experience in concrete/asphalt roadway design is preferred, and you may participate in hearings and contract administration.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an approved engineering curriculum; Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas; valid Texas Driver's License.
• Four (4) years of active engineering practice after graduation; FE exam may be substituted by PE licensure as applicable.
• Master’s degree can substitute for up to two years of experience; out‑of‑state engineers must obtain Texas PE within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage engineering activities and personnel for rehabilitation of facilities and systems.
• Review plans, specifications and cost estimates; prepare technical reports and schedules.
• Interface with departments, consultants, and the public to address inquiries; review and monitor consultant work.
• Assist in preparing contract documents, bid evaluations, and award correspondence; conduct field observations and inspections.
• Ensure codes are interpreted correctly and provide technical support on projects and programs.
