Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Hospital Communications Specialist for the Medical Center Downtown. You will coordinate responses of medical staff to emergencies, screen and direct communications among staff, patients, visitors, and outside agencies, and operate the hospital paging system and Amcom call processing.

You will monitor alarms, support telecom systems, assist users, and provide on-call coverage.

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent.
Any combination of clerical experience and/or college or university coursework equivalent to two years of full-time employment.
Experience (typically 3–6 months) in a call center or equivalent communications environment using computerized systems and involving responses to immediate decision and action demands.

Responsibilities

Coordinate response of internal and external staff to multiple types of emergency situations.
Screen and direct communications among faculty, staff, and students; patients and visitors; law enforcement agencies; and the general public.
Operate and maintain the Amcom call processing system and the Hospital Paging System.
Provide on-call services and support for outside and affiliated agencies.
Assist users with service and information related to communication technologies.
Monitor alarms and provide emergency escalation for alarms.
Maintain patient information release status in the inpatient directory.
