Job summary

This role supports the care team as a Phlebotomy/EKG technician, performing phlebotomy, glucometer testing and EKGs, while handling clerical duties and supply maintenance.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, EMT experience or related training, and AHA BLS. CNA or Capital Health UAP Training within 90 days is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Experience as an EMT or EMT Academy completion, military medic, PCA in an acute care setting, or completion of two clinical nursing semesters.
• AHA BLS certification required; non-licensed must obtain before end of orientation period.
• CNA certification preferred or Capital Health UAP Training within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides for safety aspects of patient care and assists with patient restraints and falls precautions.
• Performs phlebotomy, glucometer testing and EKGs as required, under RN direction.
• Performs clerical duties, computer tasks and supply maintenance; documents observations in patient records.
• Collects specimens (stool, urine, sputum) on a timely basis and manages unit logs.
• Stocks and maintains unit supplies and equipment; assists with post-mortem care as needed.
• Assists with CPR under RN/physician supervision and ensures patient care continuity.
