Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Yawkey 6 IMCU Critical Care unit. The role supports RNs with direct patient care, maintains patient comfort, and helps with daily activities in a high-acuity environment.

Responsibilities include vital signs, hygiene assistance, and environmental upkeep to ensure safety and quality outcomes. Evening/night shifts with every-other-weekend schedule are typical. BLS/CPR required and prior acute care experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current or within 30 days of employment CPR/BLS certification.
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
• Physical ability to perform job duties.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• One of: 1 year PCT in acute hospital, nursing program rotations, PCT training, CMA training, EMT/field medic (adult ED).
• Fluency in another language is a plus.
• Prior medical/surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform delegated patient care interventions for patients in Critical Care and their families.
• Clinical tasks include vital signs, bathing, feeding, wound care, hygiene, and emotional support.
• Maintain safe, clean, and properly equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in Critical Care.
• Contribute to efficient operation and ensure quality patient/family outcomes.
