Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the MICU A & B units. The role supports RN staff, assists with vital signs, bathing, feeding, hygiene, and patient comfort in a high-acuity Critical Care setting.

Schedule includes 24-hour shifts with nights, weekends, and holiday coverage. Requires BLS/CPR, high school diploma, and ECG competency testing. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are provided to eligible staff.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED certificate
• Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
• Basic math and computer proficiency
• One of the following:
• One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
• Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training
• Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
• One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
• Fluency in another language a plus
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
• Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
• Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
