Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the MICU to join our Magnet® recognized team. You will provide direct clinical and support services under RN supervision within our Critical Care units A & B, delivering patient-centered care and collaborating with the healthcare team to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Responsibilities include assisting with vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and comfort, while upholding standards of practice and hospital policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification with CPR current or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
  • Basic math and computer proficiency.
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting.
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program with two clinical rotations completed.
  • Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training.
  • Completed an approved certified medical assistant training.
  • One year of previous EMT or field medic experience (for adult ED positions).
  • Fluency in another language is a plus.
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delegated patient care interventions for Critical Care patients and families. Tasks include vital signs, bathing, feeding, dressing wounds, hygiene assistance, room and linen care, and emotional support.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care department.
  • Contribute to efficient operation of the Critical Care dept and support quality patient/family outcomes.
