Job summary

Laurel House is seeking a compassionate Shelter Advocate for a full-time role in a housing/shelter setting. You will assist residents with safety planning, goal setting, and access to resources, while coordinating with the Shelter Manager and counseling team.

You’ll respond to hotline inquiries, conduct screenings, and support residents’ housing and healthcare needs. This is a hands-on, community-facing position within Laurel House’s mission-driven program.

Qualifications

• Experience with survivors of domestic violence or crisis settings preferred.
• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills required.
• Ability to work with diverse populations in a shelter setting.
• Bachelor's degree preferred or 1-2 years of related experience in residential/crisis settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual empowerment, case management and advocacy to shelter residents.
• Respond to hotline and textline inquiries with crisis support and referrals.
• Conduct client screenings, intakes, and shelter admissions documentation.
• Assist residents in accessing housing, finances, healthcare, and other resources.
• Facilitate house meetings and programming with counseling staff and Shelter Manager.
• Ensure security and wellbeing of residents and shelter property.
• Organize and manage donations with proper documentation and storage.
• Maintain a welcoming shelter environment and on-site coverage for 24/7 operations.
