Job summary

Lewis Tree Service seeks a Crew Leader to supervise and develop tree crews for utility vegetation management projects. You will lead safety-focused operations, coach crews, and ensure high-quality work near power lines while maintaining strict adherence to policies.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in tree crews, strong leadership, and knowledge of ANSI standards. Expect frequent travel and on-site collaboration with customers and utility partners.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a tree crew or utility vegetation management.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements and A300 Pruning Standards.
• Able to identify poisonous plants.
• Electrical circuit basics and interpreting circuit maps.
• Advanced tree ascent/descent using ropes and safety saddle; aerial lift operations.
• CDL and medical certification as needed.
• RCP/First Aid certification (provided by Lewis).
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ensure compliance with regs (state, local, federal).

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily tree crew operations; train onboarding, coaching, discipline, ensure high-quality work.
• Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
• Monitor crew performance; manage training, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Maintain updated crew contact information; report availability/fitness concerns.
• Conduct field training and job briefings; ensure crew readiness.
• Enforce safety standards and company policies; report unsafe conditions.
• Identify jobsite hazards and implement safeguards.
• Decide on work pace due to weather or safety concerns.
• Perform and direct tree trimming, removal near energized lines; use climbing or aerial lift.
• Operate and oversee trucks, chippers, aerial lifts, and power saws.
• Interpret work orders, utility drawings, and line voltage symbols.
• Maintain clean, organized vehicles and job sites.
• Communicate with property owners for access and permissions.
• Promote positive relationships with customers, utility reps, and contractors.
• Cooperate with emergency services when blocking streets or driveways.
• Maintain records and reports on crew performance and incidents.
• Investigate incident reports and claims as assigned.
• Control crew costs through efficient resource use.
• Travel frequently; assume overnight stays as required.
