Job Description

The Creative Content Work-Study Student will assist the Norfolk State Athletics Communications Office with developing engaging visual and digital content to promote the university’s athletic programs. This position provides hands‑on experience in sports photography, graphic design, social media, and digital storytelling.

  • Capture photos and video at athletic events, practices, and special events.
  • Assist with creating graphics for game days, final scores, student‑athlete recognition, and promotional campaigns.
  • Develop engaging social media content highlighting student‑athletes, coaches, and athletic programs.
  • Assist with video editing, highlight reels, and short‑form content for digital platforms.
  • Organize and maintain digital photo, video, and graphic archives.
  • Collaborate with athletic communications staff on content planning and special projects.
  • Ensure all creative materials align with Norfolk State Athletics branding guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Strong creativity, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with photography, videography, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or social media content creation is preferred but not required.
  • Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and available to work select evenings and weekends.
  • An interest in sports media, graphic design, marketing, or digital communications is preferred.
  • Training will be provided.

Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basis of the twelve‑month period beginning May1 of each year and April30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve‑month period of May1‑April30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
