Norfolk State University seeks an Administrative Specialist to support a program, serve as the front line for inquiries, and manage records and reports. You will maintain filing systems, handle correspondence, and assist with basic financial and data tasks in a structured university setting.
The role requires 1–3 years in office management or related field, with preference for 3+ years in academia. Proficiency with Microsoft tools and university databases is expected.
Duties: Applies knowledge of office/program support activities. Works within a structured work environment. Typically serves as first point-of-contact for assigned program. Maintains a variety of records, such as inventories of supplies and materials; prepares correspondence, forms, and reports. Produces documents related to assigned office/program area. Establishes and maintains filing systems. Applies specific knowledge of work unit programs and activities. Applies knowledge of basic math and bookkeeping, telephone procedures, and standard business communication. Demonstrates extensive customer service skills, competent in the use of computer, copier, scanner and other office equipment. Competent in the use of varied software, particularly Microsoft applications used by the University. Competent in the use of other University databases, e.g., Datatel, Colleague financial, TEA, eVA, etc. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Minimum qualifications: 1 - 3 years of Education in office management science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preferred 3+ years work experience in an office administrative capacity. Prior work experience in an academic setting as an Administrative Specialist II or III. The starting amount offered for this position $36,835.00.
