Job summary

Giant Eagle Market District is hiring a Cake Decorator in Columbus, OH. You will prepare and decorate cakes, provide great guest service, and help the Bakery team deliver fresh, beautifully presented pastries for customers’ celebrations.

You’ll work with a team that values relationships, creativity, and leadership growth, helping guests find perfect dessert options while maintaining safety and sanitation standards in all bakery operations.

Qualifications

• 6–12 months experience in pastry/bakery or completion of Giant Eagle Apprenticeship program.
• Lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Age 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Fill tables and cases with cakes by moving products from prep area to sales area.
• Follow procedures to meet out-of-stock percentage goals.
• Apply merchandising to generate sales and wow guests.
• Take special orders by phone or in person.
• Maintain product quality by checking dates and condition.
• Record daily known loss.
• Prioritize safety for team members, guests, and products.
• Provide exemplary customer service and assist guests in locating products.
• Inspire fellow team members with passion for food.
• Handle products and equipment per food safety guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, surfaces, and floors.
• Prepare and decorate products for Bakery display, rotate stock and follow dating procedures.
• Ensure proper safety and sanitation methods and housekeeping.
• Record special orders to delight customers.
• Maintain department procedures, daily setups, order taking, and copyright policies.
• Stay updated on product knowledge and seasonal items.
• Ice and decorate cakes using icing, spatulas, and bags.
• Prepare icing and products for all cakes and decorated items by following recipes.
• Assist in bakery backroom, cooler and freezer efficiency by unloading deliveries.
• Operate department equipment (mixers, scales, airbrush, knives, gloves, PPE).
• Assist in other areas as required.
