Job summary

CraneWorks in Birmingham, AL seeks an Oiler to assist the crane operator and handle rigging tasks on active construction sites. The role involves securing loads, maintaining equipment, and following all safety protocols.

The position reports to the Branch Manager and requires full-time, non-exempt status. Schedule is 7:00 am–3:30 pm with overtime and weekends expected; candidate must meet drug/background checks and have a valid CDL/Driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.
• Proficient in oral and written communication.
• Ability to work nights and weekends.
• Pass drug test and background check.
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; CDL Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the crane operator in the maintenance and proper set-up of the crane and accessory equipment
• Understand and perform proper rigging techniques to ensure safe lifting of loads
• Control movements of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces
• Dismantle, maintain, and store rigging equipment
• Manipulate and hoist rigging lines to move or support materials, steel and concrete
• Select gears, cables and shackles according to load size, facilities and work schedule
• Utilize proper hand signals to give direction to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials
• Properly secure equipment to the trailer before operating truck
• Inspect truck and trailer, turn in trucks inspection report daily to the supervisor, report any mechanical defects and documents maintenance or repairs
• Prepare all necessary rigging and equipment for next day’s jobs before ending current shift
• Clean outside and cab of assigned vehicle daily
• Clean and inspect equipment in shop and yard
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations creating a safe working environment
• Regular and predictable attendance is required
• Other job duties as assigned
