Job summary

Michaels in Normal, IL is seeking an energetic events coordinator to plan and run kid-focused parties and workshops inside the store. You will greet guests, help them shop, and lead craft activities while maintaining a warm, safe, and organized store environment.

You will manage event logistics, coordinate with the team, and engage customers of all ages to promote store services and rewards programs. This role involves hands-on event setup, communication, and exceptional customer care.

Qualifications

• Retail and/or customer service experience required.
• Must have experience working with children and children’s events.
• Must have excellent people skills.
• Must have good communication skills including written, verbal, and nonverbal communication as well as listening skills.
• Must have organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and creative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate events within the Michaels store, including children’s birthday parties and other classes or events.
• Engage with clients of all ages to create a fun and creative environment.
• Demonstrate and instruct participants in craft projects and assist with activities such as face painting.
• Facilitate party add-ons (goody bags, balloons) to company standards.
• Communicate events with clients and store team members.
• Handle administrative tasks: emails, calls, and paperwork.
• Adjust plans based on client feedback and needs and create backup or emergency plans.
• Ensure client satisfaction and maintain store cleanliness and safety during events.
• Cross-train in Custom Framing selling and production.
• Participate in daily store upkeep including cleaning tasks.
