The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking to fill the position of Bailiff/Court Security Officer in the Office of Building Services. Under the direction of the Court Security Manager, the Bailiff/Court Security Officer will perform the duties of a bailiff as specified in R.C. 109.77(D) and OAC 109:2-5-01(D), as well as building security, safety duties, and operation of security systems.

What You'll Do
  1. Carry a firearm and/or TASER, maintaining all qualifications and training as approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
  2. Perform physical security and safety duties.
  3. Respond to medical emergencies and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  4. Inspect, monitor, control, and patrol work sites, properties, and people.
  5. Operate building security, badging, and access systems.
  6. Conduct scheduled building walk-throughs.
  7. Implement emergency procedures for building operations.
  8. This position requires a 40-hour, four-day workweek with rotating days off, working two 9.5-hour days (0630-1600) and two 11.5-hour days (0630-1800), with a half-hour lunch. A commuter stipend is provided.
  9. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.

What We’re Looking For
  1. High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred.
  2. 1-3 years’ experience in public security, military, or law enforcement.
  3. Skills in keyboarding and operation of security equipment; experience with firearms, TASER, magnetometers, and X-ray equipment is a plus.
  4. Ability to complete TASER training and firearms certification as prescribed by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission.
  5. Certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED.
  6. Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  7. Physical ability to lift and carry 50-80 pounds, stand and walk for up to 75% of shift, and climb stairs daily.
  8. Conflict management skills and ability to handle difficult interactions.
  9. Excellent customer service skills, including handling irate individuals.
  10. Valid driver’s license required.
  11. Employee must carry a TASER and/or firearm while on duty and maintain related training. Confidentiality of sensitive information is mandatory.
