Status: Part Time, Non-ExemptStarting Wage:

  • Court Security Officer I (+23 hrs./week(benefit eligible): $22.25/hr.

  • Court Security Officer II (-23 hrs./week(non benefited): $24.82/hr.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  1. Provides security for visitors and staff in the Legal Services Facility.

  2. Maintains order and decorum within the facility.

  3. Maintains a constant vigilance for any unusual occurrences within the facility that might jeopardize the welfare of persons utilizing the facility.

  4. Records and maintains primary records of his or her activities within the facility that may jeopardize the welfare of persons utilizing the facility.

  5. Assists at court as requested.

  6. Detects and detains criminals within his or her assigned area of responsibility.

  7. Responds to requests for assistance from staff and public.

  8. Keeps and restores peace.

  9. Prevents injury or damage to property and controls crowds within the facility.

  10. Regular attendance and punctuality required.

  11. Performs other related duties as may be required or assigned.


REQUIRED JOB COMPETENCIES



  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with judges, attorneys, witnesses and the general public.

  • Ability to protect all County personnel and public while in County facilities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to perform effectively and prioritize functions under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to explain and enforce State and County laws clearly and continuously.



  • Ability to withstand the physical demands required of maintaining foot patrol for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to maintain approved levels of proficiency in the use of firearms and defensive tactics.

  • Ability to work varied hours, including nights.

  • The employee must have the ability to testify in court as a credible and trustworthy witness.


PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.

  • Work has standard vision requirements.

  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.

  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.

  • Must perform same activities repeatedly and for long periods of time.

  • Minimal time pressure, minimal work under distractions, and minimal work in adverse interpersonal situations.

  • May require communicating with persons who are hostile, aggressive, abusive or violent, posing threatening conditions.

Qualifications

Education
High School (required)

Experience
Working knowledge of applicable State Statues and County Ordinances and Department policies, rules and procedures. (preferred)
Knowledge of courtroom procedures. (preferred)
Successfully complete all State mandated services and training, attend any additional training as required by the Department. (required)
Prior experience as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer is required. (required)
Must meet requirements of Dodge County Driver Qualification Policy. (required)
Must be 21 years of age, be law enforcement certified by the State of Wisconsin, possess an Associate Degree in Police Science or have 60 credits toward a Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement related field or meet grandfather provisions as identified in the State Administrative Code. Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered (required)
