Job summary

State of Maine Judicial Branch in Machias is seeking certified law enforcement officers with a goal to become certified Judicial Marshals. This full-time role focuses on securing the courthouse, monitoring access, and enforcing laws to protect judges, staff, participants, and the public.

You will work a structured schedule with strong work-life balance and participate in ongoing mandatory training. A pathway to certification is provided and support for career development is available.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Completion of Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training mandatory if possible.
• Ability to interact effectively with judges, court staff, attorneys and the public in varied situations.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Judicial Marshal for the court and ensures security for hearings and sessions.
• Maintains situational awareness during court proceedings and responds to security risks.
• Enforces Maine laws within the courthouse and conducts necessary arrests.
• Observes entrants to the courtroom and manages movement and activities.
• Facilitates paperwork flow between judge, clerk, defendants and participants.
• Assists with movement of evidence and patrols public areas as assigned.
• Announces opening, recess and closing of court sessions and guides attendees.
