Job description

Hennepin County District Court invites qualified applicants for a Court Operations Specialist position on the Criminal Downtown team. This is a diverse, professional environment that promotes equity for all court staff and court users. Court Operations Specialists perform advanced court operations work including training, quality assurance, compliance, report analysis, and complex case processing under limited supervision from their manager. This work entails a considerable amount of data entry and customer service. The Court Operations Specialist serves as the subject matter expert and point of contact for staff with regards to policies, procedures, report management, and financial case processing. A successful candidate for this position will be able to exercise independent judgment in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage competing demands.

Example of Duties

  • Serve as subject matter expert for other team members, using advanced knowledge of criminal court policies and procedures to answer questions, address complex or unique case processing situations, and solve problems
  • Develop and administer training to both new and current staff on procedures and process changes; spot check employee work to ensure understanding
  • Analyze reports and statistics to review staff performance and consult with lead workers and supervisors on identified issues/trends
  • Performs advanced court operations work including case processing and updating, training, report analysis, and working through complex and unique situationsMaintains knowledge of court policies, processes, and procedures. Reviews and provides feedback to leadworkers on any changes that are needed based on expertise

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Court Operations Associate or equivalent experience (for example: Court Clerk, Legal Assistant, Medical Billing Specialist, Administrative Assistant)
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to train both new and current staff on procedures, adapting technical and procedural training to various learning styles when appropriate
  • Ability to take direction well and maintain a professional and positive attitude through challenging circumstances
  • Self-directed and motivated with demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to independently make decisions based on applicable regulations
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships while providing guidance and motivation for others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to lean other job-related software
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with customers and justice partners from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, adapt to change, and work well under pressure in a high-performance environment, while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current Hennepin County District Court Criminal Division policies and procedures
  • Experience providing technical and criminal-related procedural training
  • Experience reviewing work of others for accuracy and providing feedback for corrective action
  • Experience writing job procedures and developing training materials in a clear, concise manner

Supplemental Information

Logistics
The Criminal Downtown teams are located in downtown Minneapolis:
  • Public Safety Facility: 401 South 4th Street, Suite 134 (first floor)
  • Hennepin County Government Center: 300 South 6th Street, C-1153 (eleventh floor)

This position is primarily located at the Public Safety Facility . Staff are working primarily onsite with potential for occasional remote work, depending on business needs. The core hours for this position are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, but may vary depending on the assignment and operational needs.

Salary Range
The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $23.10 per hour and may be higher, depending on qualifications. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of Minnesota employee benefits .
