Job summary

Hancock Lumber is seeking a Counter Pro at our Salisbury lumberyard. This role greets customers, assists with product selection, enters orders, and processes sales while collaborating with yard, delivery, and sales teams.

You’ll build product knowledge, develop customer relationships, and help customers complete projects with accurate quotes and timely service. The position emphasizes safety, teamwork, and a people-first culture with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Interest in sales, relationship building, and helping customers succeed.
• Ability to learn building materials, construction products, and company systems.
• Comfortable using computers for order entry, pricing, and customer transactions.

• Ability to lift, carry, and handle building materials as needed.

Responsibilities

• Help contractors, builders, remodelers, and homeowners find the right products and solutions for their projects.
• Provide outstanding customer service in person, by phone, and through electronic communication.
• Create quotes, enter orders, process sales transactions, and assist with special orders.
• Learn product availability, inventory, pricing, and building material applications.
• Coordinate with yard, delivery, and sales teams to ensure materials are delivered accurately and on time.
• Recommend related products and services that help customers complete their projects successfully.
• Resolve routine customer concerns and partner with management on more complex issues.
• Maintain an organized, professional, and customer-ready sales environment.
• Assist with merchandising, stocking, inventory, and other location support activities as needed.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures while helping create a safe workplace for employees and customers.
