Job summary

131 DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS at Great Plains Correctional Center is seeking a Unit Manager (DOC) to supervise and evaluate unit staff, coordinate operations, and administer budget work programs.

The on-site position requires a bachelor’s degree and four years of correctional experience. The role liaises with courts, parole boards, and elected officials while leading a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, humane, and secure unit operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in correctional records management or social casework or in a professional administrative position with inmate records or related responsibilities.
• Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
• On-site position; remote work is not offered.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates the performance of unit staff; provides on-the-job training; monitors case management activities; maintains a clean, safe, humane and secure unit environment.
• Regularly coordinates unit operations with other institution programs and operations.
• Administers the operation of the budget work programs; procures needed equipment and supplies; negotiates food service contracts.
• Provides for the maintenance, security and control of offender records assigned to the unit.
• Serves as chairperson of the Unit Disciplinary and Classification Committee; may serve as a member of the institutional Disciplinary Committee.
• Acts as a liaison with private and public agencies such as courts, Pardon and Parole Board, and elected officials.
• Submits reports as needed to the warden and/or deputy warden on incidents, food served, leisure activities and other significant events.
• Consults with administrative, security and inmate-related personnel to resolve emergencies or extraordinary correctional problems.
• Responsible for administration of unit programs and for planning, developing and implementing group and individual programs; negotiates public works contracts.
