Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory officer to oversee inmate dorms, enforce rules, and ensure safety and order. You will direct officers, monitor counts, and assist in investigations to maintain discipline and security.

Successful candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training on hire and meet minimum education and experience requirements. The role is full-time within SC state facilities with opportunities for career growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; related experience may substitute.
• 18 months experience in correctional, security, military or police work; degree may substitute for half.
• Must complete SCDC Basic Training within eight weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervises roll call; monitors officers on duty; instructs and explains rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Assists in non-routine problems.
• Makes sanitation, safety and security inspections of buildings, grounds and vehicles and corrects or reports deficiencies.
• Assigns duties to officers to ensure cleaning and supervision of inmates.
• Supervises and verifies counts; performs informal counts when required.
• Assists in special investigations and makes recommendations to supervisor.
• Evaluates officers' duty performance; instructs and counsels officers in required duty performance standards.
