Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisory role within its Department of Corrections to oversee and train officers in discipline, safety, security, and rehabilitation of inmates in a maximum security facility.

Role requires directing inmates and officers, evaluating performance, reviewing incident reports, and handling inmate complaints; completion of SCDC basic supervisory course within six months is required.

Qualifications

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

Direct inmates and officers in discipline, safety, security, and rehabilitation programs.
Evaluate officer performance and provide direct supervision to subordinate officers.
Review incident reports written by officers.
Instruct and counsel officers concerning duty requirements.
Investigate inmate complaints and take appropriate action; counsel inmates as required.
Monitor inmate movement within the institution.
Perform essential and marginal duties of an officer.
Perform all other related duties as assigned by the shift supervisor.
