Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee security personnel on a shift, contribute to evaluations and counseling, and ensure smooth operation of inmate management. The role includes briefing, conducting counts, and addressing inmate concerns.

The position requires a high school diploma, 18 months of relevant experience, and SCDC basic supervisory training within six months of hire. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for some experience.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and 18 months of relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree can substitute for part of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the performance of security personnel assigned to shift.
• Assists with employee evaluations, disciplinary actions and counseling.
• Assists with shift briefings with officers.
• Maintains awareness of shift activities to inform subordinates of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Performs routine and non-routine security checks of work areas and living units.
• Conducts formal and non-formal counts.
• Investigates inmates’ complaints and takes appropriate action.
• Instructs and counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
