Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and 18 months in correctional/security/police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for half the required experience.
• Must be certified by SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the performance of security personnel assigned to shift.
• Assists with employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
• Assists with conducting shift briefings with all officers.
• Remains familiar with all shift activities to inform subordinates of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Performs routine and non-routine security checks of work areas and living areas.
• Conducts formal and non-formal inmate counts.
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
