Job summary

State of South Dakota's Corrections Department is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant in Sioux Falls, SD. The role supervises correctional staff, enforces policies, and ensures safety and security within Jameson Prison.

You will oversee shift operations, respond to emergencies, and uphold disciplinary standards. Ideal candidates will have supervisory corrections experience, knowledge of use-of-force policies, and the ability to manage complex inmate safety scenarios.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible corrections experience with at least one year in a supervisory role (Sergeant or higher).
• Experience supervising correctional staff and enforcing policies is preferred.
• Ability to manage emergency situations and apply Use of Force policies.

Responsibilities

• Schedules correctional staff across shifts to ensure safety and security.
• Enforces department policies and IA procedures; directs staff and reviews reports.
• Coordinates offender counts, movements, and emergency responses.
• Provides training and performance feedback to staff; conducts performance reviews.
• Maintains logs and ensures security through post inspections and staffing levels.
