Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Lieutenant for a full-time, 40-hour weekly position. You will supervise correctional staff, enforce policies, and monitor inmate activities to maintain security and safety for offenders and employees.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years of corrections experience, including supervisory responsibilities, and knowledge of Use of Force policies.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible corrections experience with direct work with offenders, including at least one year in a supervisory role.
• Combination of education (Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field) and experience totaling three years.

Responsibilities

• Schedules correctional staff for all shifts to ensure facility security and safety.
• Enforces Department of Corrections policies and institution IA's and procedures.
• Determines appropriate action in emergency situations.
• Supervises subordinate staff to meet work unit objectives.
• Interviews staff and provides training and work direction.
